The 8th Street East Water Main Replacement Project begins June 1, 2020 and will include the replacement of water mains, restoration of roadways and the rehabilitation of sidewalks.

The City will be installing new water mains on 8th Street East between Arlington Avenue and Sommerfeld Avenue starting on Monday, June 1 at 7:00 a.m. This project will be done in phases and is expected to take approximately 3 months to complete, weather permitting and barring any unforeseen circumstances.

Phase 1 – 8th Street East from Campbell Avenue to Arlington Avenue - beginning June 1 for approximately 5 weeks.
Phase 2 – 8th Street East from Sommerfeld Avenue to Preston Avenue - approximately 4 weeks.
Phase 3 – 8th Street East from Preston Avenue to Campbell Avenue - approximately 3 weeks.

During each phase, the east bound lanes of 8th Street will close, and traffic will be diverted into the west bound lanes. Left-turn restrictions will be in place. Detours will be in place to guide motorists and pedestrians through the construction zone and to access all businesses. Access to businesses along the south side of 8th Street East will be maintained using 7th Street East.

Saskatoon Transit will continue to operate on a reduced schedule and may be affected by this detour. Transit service alerts and real-time bus information is available on third-party apps like Transit and Google Transit on desktop.
