In a quick video interview with Global News, Joe Garcea, a political scientist at the University of Saskatchewan, explains why ward races are so important in the upcoming municipal election.
“'I think people underestimate the difference that three new people could make on council,' said Joe Garcea, a political scientist at the University of Saskatchewan. 'It doesn’t have to be five people, it doesn’t have to be six people; three people could make a huge difference.'"
Garcea highlighted the importance of a "door-to-door campaign" in the ward races. I am happy to say I have been on the doorstep daily for nearly 4 months. Community engagement is incredibly important to me, and getting to meet and listen to the 23,000 folks in our ward has been a priority.

Ward 8 profile starts at the 43 second mark.
The StarPhoenix provided coverage on ward races, including that of Ward 8.
"In ward 8, surprisingly, only two candidates are running, Sarina Gersher and Evan Drisner. By all accounts, Gersher appears to be winning the race. Her lawn signs are on actual lawns as opposed to boulevards and public spaces. Voters have regularly seen her out on the doorsteps. "
"One of Saskatoon's Ward 8 council candidates says residents in her ward are concerned of a wide variety of issues, from aging infrastructure to roads and safety.
Sarina Gersher says neighbourhood safety can be improved by supporting viable forms of transportation, such as extending bus service more frequently, or even at night.
Gersher, a GIS analyst, says the city needs to be transparent with where tax dollars are going to, especially for people on a fixed income. She says residents have been concerned about some of the large legacy projects that are being built.
Ward 8 includes the College Park, College Park East, Brevoort Park, Greystone Heights, Briarwood and Brighton neighbourhoods."
