Global News - Saskatoon civic election could change dynamic of city council
Posted by Sarina Gersher · October 19, 2016 1:24 PM
In a quick video interview with Global News, Joe Garcea, a political scientist at the University of Saskatchewan, explains why ward races are so important in the upcoming municipal election.
“'I think people underestimate the difference that three new people could make on council,' said Joe Garcea, a political scientist at the University of Saskatchewan. 'It doesn’t have to be five people, it doesn’t have to be six people; three people could make a huge difference.'"
Garcea highlighted the importance of a "door-to-door campaign" in the ward races. I am happy to say I have been on the doorstep daily for nearly 4 months. Community engagement is incredibly important to me, and getting to meet and listen to the 23,000 folks in our ward has been a priority.

The StarPhoenix provided coverage on ward races, including that of Ward 8.
"In ward 8, surprisingly, only two candidates are running, Sarina Gersher and Evan Drisner. By all accounts, Gersher appears to be winning the race. Her lawn signs are on actual lawns as opposed to boulevards and public spaces. Voters have regularly seen her out on the doorsteps. "
