I hope you have had a wonderful summer. I know many families are now gearing up for the start of school. I hope you enjoy these last few weeks of summer.
This month's newsletter contains some ward specific updates, including the proposal near Lakewood Civic Centre, and rezoning in Brighton. There are also some big items up for discussion related to the Downtown Event and Entertainment District, including a private partnership agreement and the funding strategy. Updates on all these items are included in the body of this email.

Special Budget Meetings - Outcomes and Next Steps
City Council has been meeting regularly to discuss a funding gap that was identified for the upcoming 2024 and 2025 budget. This gap was identified as a part of our budgeting process and is not an indication of the final property tax impact for 2024 or 2025. Nor does this funding gap impact the 2023 budget.

City Council has been hard at work this summer with our regularly scheduled meetings and additional Special Budget Meetings. This newsletter provides an update on the budget, decisions before City Council this month, and a few ward specific updates.

Earlier this year the City recently identified a significant funding gap for the upcoming 2024 and 2025 budget. This gap was identified as a part of our budgeting process and is not an indication of the final property tax impact for 2024 or 2025. Nor does this funding gap impact the 2023 budget.
This post is meant to provide an update about what items will be discussed at the August 31, 2023 Special Budget Meeting and what decisions have been made the three previous Special Budget Meetings.
All decisions made at this meeting will lead to the creation of the 2024 and 2025 budget, with final decisions being made during Budget Deliberations on November 28 - 30, 2023. Please do not hesitate to get in touch and share your feedback at any point in this decision making process.
