In brief, here are four items of public interest that were discussed during the October 2019 City Council meeting. I was proud to Chair this meeting of City Council as the Deputy Mayor.

• Reseller Rate for Regional Customers of Saskatoon Water
• Saskatoon Freeway Project Update – October 2019
• Approaches for Addressing Existing and Emerging Protocol Issues
• Municipal Wards Commission - Establishment of Municipal Ward Boundaries

The numbers are in after two full years of offering the program, proving it's been well received. Since the program’s inception, over 1,000 requests have been approved - providing free transit services to 26,451 students for class field trips. Most field trips take place in May and June with 2,256 participants in May 2019 and 2,323 participants in June 2019. Saskatoon Transit’s ClassPass program is a resounding success! 

Fitting with the City’s Strategic Goal of Moving Around, the ClassPass program provides free transit service to Kindergarten through Grade 12 students, teachers, and chaperons, on regular transit routes, for field trip destinations within Saskatoon.

Residents who experienced property flooding during the July 14, 2019 storm in Saskatoon may apply to the Province for financial assistance under the Provincial Disaster Assistance Program (PDAP). The Province of Saskatchewan approved the City of Saskatoon’s application to be designated as an Eligible Assistance Area. Residents can download instructions and forms on our website or pick up printed forms from City Hall Security on the Main Floor or 2nd Floor.

The 2019 property tax increase of 4.40% is a result of a 3.79% increase for civic services, and a 0.61% increase for Police Services approved by Council during their deliberations on November 26 and 27, 2018.
