Happy New Year! I hope you have had a wonderful start to 2024 so far. 

To kick off the new year, every household in Ward 8 should have received a printed newsletter from me, reflecting on 2023 and looking forward to 2024. 

This month we will take a look at updates for the ward, including choosing new black cart bins and an update on the first provincial emergency shelter. City Council updates include decisions related to the Downtown Event and Entertainment District and the Accessibility Parking Program.

Ward 8 Newsletter - October 2023

This month's newsletter provides ward specific updates, including:

  • notice of a public engagement opportunity for 8th Street's Corridor Plan,
  • speed limit changes, and
  • the Province's announcement regards homelessness and mental health supports.

This month's Public Hearing has been cancelled due to lack of agenda items, but the Regular Business meeting includes discussion around:

  • vehicle noise mitigation updates, and
  • an amendment request to the Heritage Designation Bylaw for the Third Avenue United Church.

City Council has been hard at work this summer with our regularly scheduled meetings and additional Special Budget Meetings. This newsletter provides an update on the budget, decisions before City Council this month, and a few ward specific updates.

A few highlights include:

Well with the change in seasons, we have also had a change at City Hall. City Council is now back to meeting in person (with a hybrid option), with our meetings continuing to be live streamed online.
