In brief, here are four items of public interest that were discussed during the April 2018 City Council meeting.
As soon as the roads are dry in early spring, the City begins a spring sweeping blitz to remove heavier dirt and debris that gathers over the winter. Beginning in April, yellow No Parking signs are posted on scheduled priority streets to notify drivers of upcoming curb-to-curb sweeping through neighbourhoods. In mid-October, street sweeping occurs in select neighbourhoods to reduce the potential for spring flooding.

The City of Saskatoon (City) is currently creating a climate action plan that will identify how we, as a community, can reduce greenhouse gas emissions and respond to the local causes and effects of climate change. The plan will guide our actions and investments as a City, as well as outline ways the City can support community initiatives.
The City has started engaging with residents, businesses, community groups, and key stakeholders to identify climate action opportunities, priorities, and areas of interest. The input we gather will shape the recommendations that go to City Council throughout 2018. To share your ideas, please participate in the engagement activities listed below.

*News Release* At its November 20, 2017 meeting, Saskatoon City Council approved the Preferred Configuration for a re-envisioned transit system based around Bus Rapid Transit (BRT). The report brought forward by Administration presents recommendations for an appropriately-sized future Bus Rapid Transit system that will support the City’s anticipated growth.
This approval provides direction to HDR to move forward in developing a Functional Plan that will further refine the scale and cost of the new Bus Rapid Transit System, and anticipated changes to existing transit services.
Following extensive review of the 2018 Preliminary Corporate Business Plan and Budget, November 27 and 28, 2017, Mayor Charlie Clark and City Councillors approved the 2018 Business Plan and Budget which includes a property tax increase of 4.70%. While continuing to face significant non-tax revenue pressures such as declines in provincial funding, the approved budget will fulfill and maintain the City’s investment plans, service level commitments and dedicated civic programs that residents rely on.
The 4.70% property tax increase will be allocated as follows: 2.78% attributed to provincial funding reductions, 1.17% to Police Services, and 0.75% to be invested in all remaining civic programs and services. Without a funding gap left as a result of declines in provincial funding, the 2018 property tax increase would have been 1.92%.
